Remember how I noted that it seemed
like volcanic activity around the world is increasing? (That was a couple of posts ago.) Well, in that
assessment I left out the big Holuhraun fissure eruption in Iceland, which is
still going strong. And now I read that the volcano Nyamuragira in
Tanzania
is hosting a lava lake. It is very important not to
confuse Nyamuragira with Nyiragongo, its neighboring volcano, which
also, famously, hosts a lava lake. So these are two of the most
neighborly lava lakes in the entire world. I'd love to be an
eco-tourist myself to both of them, but I really don't see that
happening. So I'll just have to marvel at the pictures like most of the
rest of us.
