Dementia: a good reason for research

Do you like dementia?  Are you planning to have dementia?  Would you prefer NOT to have dementia later in life?

No, no, yes.

So, then something that could maybe help prevent getting dementia would be a good thing, right?

Yes.

Thus, I read this:

Probiotic Cocktail May Help Ward Off Dementia
The probiotic blend may offer brain health benefits that could support the aging population.
(from the University of South Florida)

And it says this in the article:

"Dr. Yadav’s team found that the [probiotic] cocktail reduced the levels of proteins that can cause the build-up of sticky plaques in the brain. It also appeared to lower levels of brain inflammation and preserve tight junctions in the blood-brain barrier — preventing leakage of harmful microorganisms into the brain. The results suggest that this probiotics mixture could decrease the progression of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.

“We actually developed this cocktail a few years back,” Dr. Yadav said. “Normally, people look at some single-strand probiotics. But we discovered that when they are put together as a consortia, they actually have more power for manipulating microbiomes, switching them from the bad side to the good side.”

Dr. Yadav and his team stressed in their study that emerging evidence demonstrates early interventions in Alzheimer’s disease can delay or even prevent the progression of symptoms."
So here's my take-away:  This is a nutritional way of helping to delay the onset, or completely prevent, dementia. That's good for people that won't get dementia, and it's good for the country, including the economy, for less elderly people to get dementia.

But despite that, the idiots in the Trump administration, notably the distressingly dumb RFK Jr. and the malevolently evil dumbass Russell Vought, are defunding research in virtually every category of science. Now, I don't know if research on this probiotic cocktail treatment of dementia has been defunded or cut back, but I wouldn't be surprised. And if it has been, I sincerely wish that RFK Jr., Russell Vought, and the POTUS all suffer from dementia. However, it would be hard to tell from their current actions if they can actually get dumber, stupider, and less attuned to reality.

Bottom line: don't cut research funding, because the person you may help from being incontinent and peeing your pants as an elderly MAGA idiot might be yourself.

Here's the paper:
