Yesterday I posted about Senate Minority Leader (and we hope it stays that way) Mitch McConnell
outlining how they will force Prez Obama to either sign what are likely to be ridiculous spending bills, or veto them which would induce a government shutdown. McConnell expects that the American public would blame the shutdown on Obama, I reckon.
Based on every time this has happened in the past, that's not how it works. Congressional Republicans who force the President's hand get blamed (rightly so). And their approval rating tanks. And the shutdown creates economic uncertainty.
You see, McConnell thinks a small minority of the citizenry can call the shots on how the government should be run. This is the same small minority that doesn't believe in climate change, believes in 7-day creation, believes the President was born in Kenya, and also thinks the President has committed impeachable offenses (which most of the rest of us find simply offensive).
As for the rest of the American public and what they think is important, I think this
David Horsey cartoon captures it quite excellently.
