In the Pan Pacs, Katie Ledecky chased down the Australians to give the USA a win in the 800-meter freestyle relay;
Jessica Hardy eked out a win in the 100 breaststroke;
the U.S. women went 1-2 in the 400 IM;
Michael Phelps was fourth in the 100 freestyle; Nathan Adrian was 2nd and James Magnussen 3rd behind another Aussie, Cameron McEvoy (the sprint relay could be fun, with the U.S. also having Anthony Ervin, who couldn't get in the A-Final due to the 2 per country rule);
the amazing Aussie Campbell sisters went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle. Missy Franklin managed 4th, (the U.S. seems to be having a dearth of top notch female sprinters right now);
and the U.S. men went 2-3 in the 400 IM.

Over in the European Championships, a Brit(!), Adam Peaty, won the 50 meter breaststroke - with a world record;
Florent Manadou had a great day, winning the 100 free, the 50 fly, and swimming on the winning French 400 freestyle relay team;
Pretty and fast Jeanette Ottesen (no longer Gray) upset favorite Sarah Sjostrom in the women's 100 fly by a truly scant 0.01 second;
"Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy underlined his long-distance dominance
by winning the 800 freestyle gold medal on Friday to add to his 1,500
title at the championship. Pal Jonsen of the Faroe Islands prevented an Italian 1-2 by claiming the silver medal ahead of Gabriele Detti.";
(The Faroe Islands? Seriously? OK, it's sort of a country, but I wouldn't think of it as a place to develop a world class swimmer. They don't even have a 50 meter pool. It's actually Pál Joensen. And this was a good race for him, as he had
a poor showing at the Olympics. Good video of him at the link, one of the better views of an underwater freestyler I've seen.)
and Rikke Moller Pedersen won the 200 meter breaststroke in 2:19.84, which is amazingly NOT a world record (she holds that, 2:19.11). That is freakin' fast.
